Mom brain… it is a real thing…

In the morning I often lay in bed staring at the ceiling fan attempting to plan the day… or at least a rough guideline. I normally have best thoughts first thing in the morning… but there is one problem; Oliver often sleeps in our room after his 4am feeding. Moving or even having the light from your cell phone on will disrupt his sleep and your moment of tranquility will vanish… so here is the tricky part.. planning your day without writing it down…

You would not believe the amount of things I forget to do … literally moments after just getting up out of bed. For example this afternoon I went downstairs the to take some meat out to defrost for supper… what did I come upstairs with? LAUNDRY… It always amazes me how I can belt out the lyrics to any 90s pop song but can’t remember what I was going in the kitchen to grab 2 minutes after needing or wanting it…

Face-palm moments are real…

Waking up numerous times in the night your mind is bound to play a few tricks on you. I woke up recently to warm a bottle at night; went in the fridge to grab the bottle – instead grabbed a can of cola – opened it… looked down and shook my head at my mental brain fart. Soda at 3am… sure why not?… I need to wait for the bottle to warm up; why not have a caffeine/sugar rush…

I am no longer the Queen of the memory game…

Normally in our relationship I am constantly reminding my husband of certain things that need to be done or places we need to go. Lately my husband is the one reminding me. If it were not for cell phone alarms and fridge calendars I would be a lost woman; clueless on where to go. I miss my memory… I have heard that eventually your hormones regulate and you become normal again. Normal can come home any day now and make my life a bit easier – I’m tired of my husband making fun of my mommy brain. One day I will reign again…

Grocery lists have failed me…

I have come to realize a grocery list only as good as the list writer…

I have failed list writing this week. I planned on going to the store with my list of “everything” on Saturday… got to the store and got everything on my list – but when I got home I realized I forgot to put a few items on my list.

I always thought my mom was silly for having an ongoing list on her fridge … I know understand why – when you use the last one add it to the list IMMEDIATELY. Don’t wait until you need to write a list… this is my lesson learned after 4 trips to the store this week… how can it only be Wednesday?!

May your mommy brain be on a better track than mine this week.

Cheers.
